Environmental Essentials Ltd delivers a comprehensive range of asbestos consultancy services to British Telecommunications (BT), including management surveys, air monitoring and four-stage clearance testing, bulk sampling and analysis, and asbestos re-inspection surveys. The contract was originally awarded to Omega Asbestos Consulting Ltd through a direct invite to tender, before being novated to Environmental Essentials Ltd in March 2025 following our acquisition of Omega ahead of full integration.

Environmental Essentials is one of six asbestos consultancies appointed to deliver services across the BT property portfolio. Each consultancy focuses on a specific UK region, while also providing support on a national basis when required. The BT property portfolio, managed by facilities management provider CBRE, ranges from very small one-room buildings to large, complex telephone exchanges. The diversity of the buildings presents unique challenges, requiring tailored survey and project management approaches to meet BT’s operational needs.

We successfully delivered a programme of over 700 asbestos management surveys. This required detailed coordination and careful planning, with all site attendances booked through an online notification portal and CBRE escort support arranged to ensure full access to each building. Prior to each survey, desktop reviews were conducted to plan access to secure or restricted areas, liaising with CBRE and BT stakeholders to avoid delays. An established escalation process was followed for situations where asbestos in poor condition was identified, rooms were found to be flooded, or other health and safety risks were encountered.

Following the survey programme, Environmental Essentials has delivered analytical support for asbestos remedial works across the same building portfolio. Many of these projects involved complex asbestos removal works in high-profile, live telephone exchanges where operational continuity was critical. Meticulous planning and sequencing were essential, with our teams deploying full-time air monitoring to safeguard building occupants and ensure works were carried out to the highest standards.

This partnership with BT, facilitated by CBRE, demonstrates Environmental Essentials’ capability to operate across large, varied, and operationally sensitive property portfolios. Through precise planning, responsive communication, and technical expertise, we have helped BT maintain compliance, protect building users, and keep essential infrastructure running without disruption.
