Springfield University Hospital

CDM advisory role assist in the complete modernisation of healthcare ‘village’

Our client wished to substantially redevelop Springfield University Hospital in Tooting. Working alongside STEP, the principal developer, the requirement was to deliver an Estate Modernisation Programme to create Springfield Village; the site of new mental health NHS facility, which also included a community park, an associated road network, infrastructure, and energy solution, restored listed buildings, and high-quality new housing.

As Principal Designer for Kajima and CDM Health and Safety Advisor for the developer, STEP, we played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and coordination among the multiple Principal Contractors involved in the project. This involved ensuring that all parties were aligned in their approach to health and safety and that best practices were consistently applied.

Responsibilities included tasks such as incorporating F10, producing PCI, attending DTMs, reviewing design risk assessments, reviewing asbestos reports and associated paperwork, conducting site visits, advising designers on CDM compliance, providing guidance on H&S issues, reviewing accident reports, and updating the H&S file and O&M manuals. These efforts were integral to the project’s overall success, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a culture of safety excellence.

By assigning a highly experienced Senior Health and Safety Consultant, capable of handling two roles within the project, we implemented a comprehensive safety strategy and ensured a holistic approach to health and safety across all aspects of the project.
