The GAAW is sponsored and organised by the Asbestos Awareness Disease Organisation (ADAO) in America and they have ran the event since 2004.
ADAO dedicates April 1-7 to increasing awareness of asbestos and preventing exposure by bringing together experts and victims from around the world to share, learn, and take action.
Global Asbestos Awareness Week is dedicated to educating people about their asbestos risk and how to manage it in order to prevent asbestos-caused diseases. While promising research continues, prevention remains the only cure for mesothelioma. Knowledge truly is power, in this situation, and this week is about empowering and equipping people to protect themselves while we work for protective legislation.
Building on strength and collaboration, this year’s Global Asbestos Awareness Week will focus on:
- Banning the mining, manufacturing, and use of asbestos;
- Preventing asbestos exposure through education and awareness;
- Increasing compliance and enforcement of existing laws and regulations
Environmental Essentials will be adding two posts a day to their new Blog page to reinforce the ADAO key phrase, "Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention". The morning blogs will be discussing what asbestos is from the history to it's uses and also looking at the health and legal asbestos of the mineral. The afternoon posts will be looking at the impact that asbestos has on people in our society from homeowners to duty holders.
We will be running a Prize Draw for people who visit our social media and sign up to enter the draw. The Prize will be for 10 E-Learning UKATA Asbestos Awareness Course credits and the winner will be drawn and announced the week after the GAAW. To sign up for the draw please use the following link and enter your details as instructed on the Google Docs form:
We are also excited to announce that we will be having some guest blogs on the 7th April, the final day of the week, with some key messages within them.
